MEDZ at OC ( Orchard Central)

Sorry folks! It has been some time since we've last blog.

If you love Mediterranean cuisine, or u are craving for it, you might want to try MEDZ at OC.

Not cheap though, and portion is quite small. They followed Marche concept, you can order freely just by swiping the card :

Let's see what are the choices of food available:
1) Rosti ( with cured salmon)

We added the cured salmon. You can add ham, salmon etc for a charge. If i never remember wrongly, the rosti was $5 and the additional cured salmon was $3. Cured salmon was nice and the rosti was delicious as well. Eat it while it's hot!!

2) Pizza

There are 3 different type of pizza. We order one with fish and the other is the plain cheese pizza. Cheese lovers, You are in treat :)

3) BBQ prawn

Fresh and succulent!!! We love this! Is kinda expensive and need to remove the shell, so abit troublesome.

4)Mussel spaghetti

This is way too bland. Its really tasteless and in the end, no one wants to touch this dish. Basically is really the spagetthi and mussels, there are no other ingredients or spices.

5) Hotplate lamb + Pita bread

The hotplate lamb is the nicest, out of the so many dishes. But portion is real small. It cost around $10.90 and i added pita bread to it. Again, an additional $3.

6) Rice and Kebab

Basically, this dish is ordered by my friend, so i am not very sure if it's the correct name. That's what they told me. Nonetheless, the meat is nice and the rice is special. It doesnt taste like normal white rice we eat. Dip it in the sauce and it's different:)

7)Sausages

These sausages are to my liking too :) The sauce is strong and the sausages are chewy. But.. It's too small again :( Hahah.. Big eater like me, dont find it satisfying.

8) Fruit Beer ( 1-1 )

Yes!! You saw it right!! We were told that during weekdays ( Mon- Thurs), fruit beer are 1-1. Only catch here is that you have to order the same beer, same flavour, that goes to say, same brand as well. We order peach and Framboise flavour. Framboise is actually a French word for raspberries. Both are sweet as they are fruit beer :) In our opinion, Framboise is less strong in terms of their sweetness and taste. It cost $16 per bottle, but it's 1-1, so it's $8 each.

We have also heard for weekend, there are promotion as well. But is 3 bucket for $28 bucks, i think. Check out the store, if you are interested :)

9) Dessert

I'm not a sweet tooth person. But the ice cream crepe is definitely worth a try. We order the cookies & cream flavour and it's (hey!!) nice :).

Ok, so much for the MEDZ. See you guys around for my next blog :)

Lousy service at bao today

Went to bao today happily.but was greeted by unfriendly staff.when we sit down, they immediately split the table and didn't even bother about us.When we take order,a china young waitress was serving us impatiently, when we ask what drinks they have, she threw the menu back at us and asked us to see the drinks column.we finally order a pot of tea to share.I noticed the waitress was not very happy when I order a pot Of tea to share.but I quckly dismiss the thoughts thinking that it should be I overly sensitive and afterall I dont want to eat unhappily.when the waitress bring the pot of tea to us,she only bring along2tea cups. There are4 persons. Can't she see it? But, still, we treat it as nothing and eat happily again. The ultimate straw to my patience is they don't allow me to refill the teapot water for more than once!! If this is thier policy, then they should have stated it somewhere. Not only it is not stated, the waitress whom we called upon to refill our tea was about to refill the tea for us,but she was stopped by the china young waitress telling her not to refill for us.if this is really their policy, how can this first wait staff not know about it?

Zenshin Sushi @ Bugis

Update~

This restaurant has already closed down.

TGIF!We came across this sushi restaurant at bugis. Its located among the few shop houses when you walk to the Buddhist temple from MRT station. If you frequent there, its along the stretch of shop houses that has This Fashion, Taka, SINMA, gifts and stationary shop, and i think its besides the 3 for $10 shop, if my memory does not fail me:)

There it is the restaurant name. Missed out the logo though..

We thought since we haven't try anything from here, so we decided to give a try... It was just after a corporate party, floor was dirty and etc. But their service staff was courteous and boss seems attentive. He noticed that we are ready to order and asked one of the waitress to take our orders.

We order some sushi, ramen & katsu don.

Maguro, Salmon & Advocado sushi

The maguro sushi was fresh. Not exactly very fresh, but we went to the restaurant at 9.20pm +, for this timing, its considered fresh. The salmon sushi doesnt look fresh. But it was average though. Not as stale as i thought it to be. As for the Avocado sushi, this is the first time that I can actually taste the avocado because usually those avocados found in california handrolls tasted mild or even tasteless. As seen from the picture, the avocado are thinly-sliced and in large portion. The avocado is fresh and a little crisp too! Coupled with the rice which is nicely seasoned with vinegar and wrapped with a thin strip of seaweed, the avocado sushi is recommended for people who like avocado.
Most of their sushi are expensive. Though there are some sushi that belong to the $1.99 range, but the range is very limited. Btw, these 3 sushi that i ordered belong to the $1.99 range :)

Katsu Don set

Katsu Don - look at the scrambled egg :)

The katsu don is $10.90. The serving was just nice, with plenty of egg, carrot strips and onions. The serving of the pork cutlet is average though, as there are other Japanese restaurants that serve the whole pork cutlet rather than a portion of it. Taste wise, the katsu don was quite fragrant and the sauce is ample such that the rice isn't dry to eat. The main disappointment that I had with this dish is they didn't use real Japanese rice (or at least I can't find any in the bowl). If you are a great fan of real Japanese rice, I do not recommend this katsu don, otherwise it is worth a try although the price is a little on the high side (no Japanese rice, remember?).

My Kimuchi ramen- Kinda little hor. This pic. was taken

before i eat the ramen.

Close up view of the ingredients in the ramen & soup base

The Char Siew in my ramen

They have 4 different type of ramen. One of them is miso ramen, sapporo ramen, kimuchi ramen etc. Anw, they are filled with same ingredients except that their soup base is diff. I order the Kimuchi ramen. It tastes like Kimchi soup base. It's sweet with a hinge of sour taste. I don't like this kind of soup base. FYI, i dont really like sweet stuff. So if you like sweet base or like kimchi, you might want to try it. It seems more like Korean noodles to me than Japanese noodles, due to the Kimchi taste. Their ingredients for the ramen is little and the ramen seems like maggie mee.. Opps.

Mayim @ West Mall (Bukit Batok)

Went to Mayim @ Westmall for high tea this week! ha.. There is another outlet at Northpoint also. Food was not too bad. Have been there a few times. Love its xiao long bao and its cheap. $2.20 for 3 xiao long bao. Must eat it while its hot, else its not nice. But I nv eat them today. Their service was not very good because we went there eat a few times this month and asked if there is any card discounts or treats but we was told there was none. Howvever, few days later, i came across that there is actually a promotion with UOB:

- Complimentary golden fried calamari ring with dried chilli and minced garlic with min. spend of S$50
- Birthday Treat: Free dessert during the birthday month
Valid till 31 Dec 2010

We spent more than $50 both times and we have the card :(

The layout of their utensils :

The tea:

We order:

Golden Fried Wanton Served with Pickle Sauce ( This is the name of the dish on the menu) But no pickle sauce was served!

Don't ever order this dish, if you are a meat lover! You will regret! Cos the whole thing is flour with v v little meat in it. You can see from the pic below:

The back of the wanton. No meat :(

The front picture of the wanton

Fried "la mian" with shredded pork, mushroom, black fungus & chinese cabbage. ( The Shanghai noodle) Cost:$8.50

Its overly salty, for asian taste. But not bad overall for this dish. PS: I am one who loves salty fd. As you can see from the pic, yes! It's quite small portion!

Steam vermicelli roll with bbq pork. Cost $3.40

Not too bad. Aplenty sauce, not very stingy with the pork as well. Can taste the sweetness of the sauce.

Steamed vermicelli roll with shrimp. You can see the shrimp inside the vermicelli roll. Each of the roll will only have this one and only ingredient - shrimp. Average size prawn.

Spiced chicken feet with peanuts.Cost: $2.20. I didn't touch this dish. Monster, can you comment on this dish?

Roger... Monster is here... hmmm this chicken feet arh... i like loh...very soft... and when the fluffy spongy chk feet skin is in my mouth.. i can feel i got lots of collagen loh... "boig boig boig" on my skin especially on my face, like SK2 adventisement WAHAHA!! NICE!! But .. my personal preference lah hor.. it is a little too sweet...if can reduce the amt of sugar, it will be just the right taste for me... hehehe

Those who dare to eat chk feet one.. try it n share with me .. chk feet to all of u lah.. hehehe thanks : )

Steamed pork ribs with black beans. Cost: $2.20
Not too bad. Some restuarant serve alot of fatty meat in this dish. But what i eat here, was still ok. Not so much of fatty meat.

Steamed pork dumpling with mushroom topped with fish roe ( actually called siew mai)Cost : $2.20

We actually cant taste the fish roe.. But it was delicious! Perhaps cos the filling is alot! And we are able to taste the quality of the ingredients :)

Baked Portobello mushroom stuffed with minced meat, scallion, bacon and cheese. Cost : $5.80

As you can see,its a small and exquisite dish. Taste is not that strong. Cheese is light, but can taste the cheese. Filling is little. Doesnt have the mushroom taste. If you like exquisite things, do try it.

Promotions @ Pizza Hut

Went to Pizza Hut for Breakfast on Saturday, and discover this promotion.

If you are a Citibank card holder and you love pasta, do drop by your nearest Pizza Hut store to enjoy this 1-1 deal. Purchase any ala carte Parchment Pasta & get a Pasta Perfetto(Classic range)/ Personal crispy thin pizza 6" (Sambal Chicken/ Family Favourities) Free!

This 1-1 deal is :
- only from 25 Aug - 28 Sept 2010
- for dine in only
- payment must be pay by Citibank Card
- Max 2 redemptions/table/bill
- Not valid with other promos, offers or discounts
- Discount is b4 prevailing GST & 10% service charge

So much for the discount info.. Let me share with you guys what we order. They only have 2 different flavours of Parchment Pasta :

1) Char-grilled Chicken Parchment, SGD $11.90++.

They have chicken, turkey bacon, button mushroom, capsicum in spaghetti. Is more cheesy based. Abit over soupy. The red colour thingy that looked like prawn in my picture is not prawn ")

2) Spicy Seafood Parchment, SGD $12.90++.

They have 3mussels, 3 prawns, squids in linguine. Should be linguine. Cos is thicker and flatter than spaghetti. Its not spicy, even though they placed an indication of 2chilli. V stingy with their seafood, alot linguine.

This is how the Spicy Seafood Parchment Pasta looks like before it was attacked by hungry fatties! Looks pretty and tempting.

We chose Personal crispy thin pizza 6" for our free dish. Some feel that is a wise choice cos 2 pasta, 2 pizza, gives a nice balanced meal. But i kinda regretted for not choosing pasta for the free dish. Cos the pizza is small. And one of the free pasta seems nice and a worthwhile price for a free dish! haha..

My free Ocean catch. V little seafood :(

This is the sambal Chicken pizza. It has chicken chunks, capsicums, onions, ikan bilis on sambal base. Surprisely, we prefer this. We are seafood lovers. But the ocean catch ingredients were little. The ikan bilis were real cripsy and big:)

We order this sweet & spicy drumlets. Cos we were real hungry and the waitress mentioned that it can be served while we wait for other main course. So we ordered. But in the end, it came even later than our pasta!Perhaps it was coz they have just open their store for business at 11am. Anw, we like their drumlets cos of the strong flavouring.

Delifrance Breakfast Buffet

Cool Sunday morning. Raining and nice to slp. Yet awoken by my hungry leader to eat buffet at Delifrance. Went to Choa Chu Kang Lot1, 3rd floor, delifrance for the buffet. It starts at 8am - 10.30am. Can you imagine how early i was awoken by hungry monster today!

Reasonable price. Cos it will cost more ex for their breakfast set menu. The buffet costs SGD 9.90++ per adult, SGD 6.60++ for children (above 3 but below 12) and toddlers 3 and below is free. However, the buffet is only available on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays.

The variety of the buffet is little as compared to other breakfast buffet. But for the price, i think it is still okay to eat it sometimes. There are around 8 mini pastries such as chocolate muffins {shell-shaped}, tuna, curry puff, apple puff, a few different flavour of Viennoiseries, baguette, croissant. For cooked food portion, they have tomato with cheese melted on top of it ( delifrance named it as "tomato provencal"), baked beans, scrambled eggs, ham and sausages. The portion placed on the common area for buffet were little. But they frequently top up the food. The ham & sausages were very salty:( esp the ham. The scrambled egg should be eaten while its hot. The cold egg just doesnt taste that good. Beverages includes orange juices, coffee and tea.

One of the many plates that i eat.. ROARS.. haha..

Big cup of Orange

A good way to eat the salty ham.. is to eat it with my mini tuna puff:)

Overall, if you prefer flour-based food, you can try this buffet breakfast :)
